Entente Cordiale Centenary - Welcome

RENCONTRE: Garcia-Fons Trio & SCO Chamber Ensemble    

Renowned French composer and jazz bassist Renaud Garcia-Fons – ‘the Paganini of the double bass’ - and his Trio make their Scottish debut.  They open the concert with a typically eclectic mix of jazz works before being joined by seven SCO musicians for the premiere of Rencontre, specially commissioned for the 100^th anniversary of the Entente Cordiale.  In creating the piece, the players journeyed through flamenco, afro-latin, central European and oriental traditions, fusing the disciplines of classical music with the freedom of improvisation.
